Matt Hasselbeck: Red Sox Fan
Yeah, I couldn't find a picture of Hass in Red Sox garb, but that was close enough. Y'all know he grew up in New England, and he's a well-renowned BoSox fan, just like DKSB himself. I've caught myself wondering if Hass ever catches the Red Sox when they come to Safeco (I'll be there for 2 of 3 when Boston comes back to Seattle this July, by the way)...
Would that offend any of you, if Hasselbeck was at an M's game rooting for the other team? I know that Clevelanders FREAKED when Lebron showed up at a playoff game rooting for the Yankees, so I understand if M's fans would react the same way... But I'd love to hang with the dude and get a "Let's Go Red Sox" chant going... :-]
By the way, big ups to the M's for taking 2 out of 3 from my Sawx... You're only 11 games behind us for the AL wild card!

I don't mind if Hass suppports the sox, He is FROM Boston. My "bitch" is for the "poser" fans that support the sox because they are fashionable. I went to the 3 game series last week and was in a local sports bar. Out of the 10 so called sox fans that were there, I did not talk to one FROM Boston. I am positive that if Boston has a couple of losing seasons, you would not see all the bandwagoners.
Anon,
I decry bandwagon fans as much as anyone, but I don't think you have to be from Boston to be a Sox fan. I've been a BoSox fan for over 20 years, and I grew up in the Tri-Cities.
Conversely, I think it's pretty dumb to say, for example, that if you're not from the northwest, we don't want you as a Seahawks fan.
I don't care HOW you became a Seahawks fan... If you are passionate, loyal and knowledgeable, you're welcome in the 12th man club IMO...
dksb,
Sorry to upset you so much. I am a 15 year season ticket holder to the Hawks and a Mariner fan and live in Seattle. My comment was made because I made a mere observation of the Mariner/Sox game. Don't get so upset that I actually talked to many of the Sox fans in attendance and I asked them what team they supported in 1995 and one even responded "well that year the Mariners were good so I supported them." They were the same fans that packed the Kingdome in 1996 with Brett Farve Jerseys. During that time I actually heard a girl at work say "we are going to the Seahawks packers game to cheer for the packers." I asked why. She said "Brett Farve is so cute." I am not attacking life long fans, you can be from Seattle, LA, Boston, and even from "Down winder-ville (technically not in Washington-recently relocated to northern Oregon) and root for whomever, just don't let your girlfriend buy a pink Manny Jersey because she is going to the game tomorrow and really likes Bob Marley.
Anon,
I totally agree with everything you just said. :-]
It was the "he's from Boston" thing that got me riled up. I'm going to a Red Sox/Reds game in Cincy this weekend and I'm sure I'll get a lot of "are you even FROM Boston?" kinda shit yelled at me.
Who gives a fuck if I'm from Boston? If people in New England think that I'm "less of a fan" because I'm not from there, fuck them too.
PS: I fucking hate the fucking Patriots.
Could not agree more with the bandwagoning comment (after all, that's what the "B" on the ugly Red Sox hats stand for). I am aware that Hasselbeck's Seahawks play his true favorite team next year, the Patriots. Hasselbeck will probably tell the Patriots Seattle's plays (like Belichick won't know them in advance from his taping anyway) and let them win because he loves Boston so much.
